A storybook tradition came to life at Adelaide Elementary as kindergarten students took part in a holiday experience focused on kindness and community.

Students gathered to hear “The Elves and the Shoemaker,” then set off on a clue-based adventure through the school, building excitement with each stop. While the search didn’t uncover any tiny visitors, it led to something far more memorable.

At the end of the journey, every kindergartner received a brand-new pair of shoes.

The surprise was made possible through the generosity of America First Credit Union. As students tried on their new shoes, the moment reflected the powerful role community partners play in supporting students and helping meet every day needs.

Sometimes the most meaningful holiday moments are created through generosity and care.

Students in Annie Barlow’s 6th grade DEEP class at Lakeside Elementary recently wrote thank-you cards to veterans in honor of Veterans Day.

With support from parents, they created handwritten messages for Air Force service members as part of a class project centered on gratitude and community.

Lakeside is a Purple Star School, and many students in the class come from military families, making the project especially meaningful.

Bountiful Junior High recently held its first Beauty Club meeting of the school year. The club, called Be-YOU-tiful and led by P.E. teacher Wendy Parker and Spanish and English Language Development teacher Patricia Madden, is open to all girls in the school.

The club aims to empower students, build confidence and create a positive space where everyone can learn, grow and support one another.

Students learned about self-worth, healthy relationships and basic skin care, along with guidance on safe makeup practices such as sanitizing and not sharing products.

The lesson also highlighted simple beauty tips — like using clear lip gloss or keeping hair neat — while emphasizing that makeup is optional and not required to feel confident or beautiful.

Congratulations to the winners of the 2025 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Speech Contest!

This year marks the 21st anniversary of this districtwide tradition, where students share excerpts from Dr. King’s speeches and bring his message of courage, equality and hope to life on stage.

Our winners delivered powerful, thoughtful performances that honored Dr. King’s legacy and highlighted the importance of belonging, service and community in our schools. Their voices continue to remind us of the strength, heart and leadership found in Davis School District.

Syracuse High School hosts its third annual Yule Titan Market Friday, Dec. 5 from 5-8 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 6 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the school’s commons area.

The market features pottery and other artwork from a host of Syracuse High students, as well as artisans from local businesses who have chosen to participate.

The market is a fundraiser for students to attend the annual Clay Con West Conference in St. George. The annual ceramics convention is for potters and ceramics artists and features mini-presentations, workshops, demonstrations and networking opportunities. The convention also funds scholarships for new artists through an art auction.

In a related note, the Yule Titan Market will also benefit local businesses which participate in it.

Fifth graders from Wasatch Elementary School recently participated in the Davis Goes Green field trip, where they explored how local systems work to protect the environment.

Students visited the Wasatch Integrated Waste Management District, Weber Basin Water Conservancy District and North Davis Sewer District to learn how waste is processed, water is treated and resources are recycled and reused.

The experience gave students a firsthand look at the science and community planning that keep our region clean and sustainable. They were able to connect classroom learning to real-world processes, better understand their own impact on the environment and see how everyday choices contribute to conservation efforts.
