Celebrating our own Jen Smith

Mrs. Jen Smith brings warmth, energy, and heart to our second grade team. She says her greatest joy in life is her family. She has one biological son and several adopted children, all of whom are now grown. She loves this stage of life and cherishes the time she gets to spend with them.

Her home is always full of life—especially with dogs! Her husband often has a hunting dog or two, and she has a little black puppy who has quickly become her favorite running partner.

Mrs. Smith loves teaching almost as much as she loves the beach. Summer and fall are her favorite seasons, and when she’s not in the classroom, you can often find her enjoying the outdoors or staying active. She comes from a big family of 10 children—five boys and five girls—which helped shape her love for connection and community.

She enjoys a wide variety of hobbies, including running, crocheting, sewing, gardening, reading, and doing puzzles. She’s an accomplished runner, having completed 17 half marathons and one full marathon, though these days she prefers to run just for fun.

Mrs. Smith and her family are big sports fans and love watching football and lacrosse together. When it comes to food, pizza is her favorite, and she jokingly admits to drinking a few too many Diet Mountain Dews each day! Her favorite treats include popcorn mixed with Whoppers and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.

Her favorite colors are turquoise and black, and her favorite vacation spot is Cabo San Lucas. There, her family enjoys snorkeling with stingrays, deep-sea fishing, relaxing by the pool, eating endless chips and guacamole, and swimming in the ocean. She says there’s something truly magical about the ocean breeze.

One unique fact about Mrs. Smith? She was born at home in a small Idaho town, delivered by her father with only her parents in the room while her siblings watched cartoons nearby!

We are so lucky to have Mrs. Smith at Sand Springs Elementary!
