Morgan Elementary celebrated it's first ever French Week during the week of March 16-20th. Each day one of our French teachers picked a country that's native language is French, and we learned about that country. We started each morning with a French song, and announced a French word of the day. During lunch recess those teachers set up an informational table with some fun activity teaching students about the country of their choice.
Monday - Mme. Hudgens kicked off the week teaching us about her home country of La Reunion Island, a volcanic island east of Madagascar. Kids were able to hear music from the Reunion Islands, and learn traditional dances from Mme. Hudgens. She had several posters with information about the island, what type of food they eat, the flora and fauna, and some of the geographical and cultural information about the island. What a special opportunity to learn from someone who was born and raised there!
Tuesday - Mr. Laporte shared information about his home country France. He too shared informational posters about the food, culture and history of France. If only we could have some French food while we were learning about this beautiful country!
Wednesday - Mme. Arredondo shared with us the country of Senegal, the western most country in Africa. A beautiful blend of French and African culture is something that has drawn Mme. Arredondo to learn more about the country that she hopes to soon visit. Food, sharing, kindness, and open welcoming villages is what this country is known for.
Thursday - Mr. Lansing brought the Province Quebec to life. Students from his class were assigned to learn about everything about Quebec, and then create posters sharing that information. It seems the common theme is that French cultures love their food!
Friday - last but not least...Mme. Charbonneau taught students about her home country Belgium. Mmmm, Chocolate! We loved learning about Belgium and all the wonderful things that make it a great country with French culture.
Friday we finalized the week with a wonderful assembly sharing dances and music from each country represented. Teachers presented information about their country. It was a fantastic week of learning and appreciating French culture, perfect for our French Immersion school celebration. We look forward to making this an annual tradition!
