Fifth grade students at Meadowbrook Elementary recently took part in a meaningful learning experience focused on understanding homelessness in Utah and finding ways to help those in need.
As part of their classroom learning, students explored what homelessness looks like in their own state, discussing its causes and how it affects individuals and families. Teachers guided thoughtful conversations to help students build empathy and recognize the importance of compassion and community support.
After learning about the issue, students put their knowledge into action by participating in a service project. Each student helped make warm scarves that will be donated to people experiencing homelessness throughout Utah. The project gave students a hands-on way to make a difference and showed them that even small acts of kindness can have a big impact.
Through this experience, Meadowbrook’s fifth graders learned that helping others starts with understanding and caring. Their service project not only provided warmth to those in need but also helped students grow as responsible and compassionate members of their community.
