🐾 Introducing our #SummerSidekick spotlight: Kim VanLeuven, Librarian at Adams Elementary. Kim shares "Our family has a history of adopting homeless dogs, which added to our craziness. When the day of grace came to send our pups running through a field of heavenly flowers, we swore with broken hearts to never find a furry friend again. Suddenly the children fly from the nest, which is what we taught them to do, and life is filled with silent motionless spaces. But then a friend says, 'Our pup had puppies, and you should see the runt. She has a white furry heart on her chest and a wishbone on her neck.' Now we find ourselves in love again with four paws, a wet nose and an obsession with a ball. It's amazing how one bossy soul can fill up a home again." 🐾 🎾 Thank you for sharing your story, Kim. Ready to showcase your pet? Join our #SummerSidekick series! 📸 Message us a photo of you and your pet enjoying summer adventures and tell us your story. Let's celebrate the love and companionship our pets bring to our lives! 🌞🐶❤️

Out with the old, in with the new. The sod at Clearfield and Davis high schools has been removed and the fields are getting prepped for new turf. The two schools are centrally located in Davis School District. Their football fields see a lot of play, and with the sod being more than a decade old, administrators could tell it was time for a change. Both fields are scheduled to be completed by the end of July, just in time for the kickoff of the 2024 football season. Tracks surrounding the fields are also getting a facelift. The old polyurethane/rubber layer are being replaced with a new surface to help the next generation of track stars break new records.

🏺✨We are delighted to highlight the success of Ceramix Camp held at Farmington High School, where students immersed themselves in the art of pottery. Throughout the camp, elementary students focused on honing their hand-building skills, mastering techniques such as pinch, coil and slab building. Their dedication and creativity shined as they crafted and glazed three distinct projects, showcasing their artistic talents. Meanwhile, our secondary students delved into the intricacies of pottery wheel techniques, creating stunning pieces that reflect their growing proficiency and passion for ceramics. 🌀🏺 Adding a sweet touch to their artistic journey, the students also enjoyed an ice cream party using the ceramic bowls they personally fired and decorated.🍦 Take a moment to admire each students incredible creations! 🌟

Lights, Camera, CREATE! The Davis School District is shining a spotlight on creativity thanks to a fantastic partnership between DSD Community Schools and Beverley Taylor Sorenson (BTS) Arts. For one week, 14 After School Programs were lucky enough to have an artist in residence. Students learned the power of self-expression through theater with Elise Hansen and rocked out with music lessons from Katherine Fowles. But the fun doesn't stop there. Two separate weeks of drama camps were also funded by this amazing partnership, giving students a FREE chance to explore their dramatic side. This collaboration is all about making sure ALL students have access to the arts, regardless of background. By combining resources, we're helping kids develop their confidence, creativity and teamwork skills in a fun and engaging way. Thank you to Community Schools and BTS Arts for making this possible. We can't wait to see what future artistic adventures await our students.

🌟 A Heartwarming Tale of Dedication and Honor 🇺🇸 Four former Woods Cross Elementary Wolverines, now part of Girl Scout Troop 280, paid tribute to our nation's heroes by laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington Cemetery, Virginia. Under the guidance of their leaders and with the support of their community, these determined young women sold over 24,000 boxes of cookies over two years to fund their 8-day trip to Washington DC. Let's salute their dedication and spirit of service.

Exciting news! Layton High's groundbreaking ceremony paves an exciting path forward with plans for an extensive renovation. A new little theatre, scene shop, science labs, classroom wing, expanded commons, band, choral, art and ceramics rooms promise a transformed learning environment. 🏫🚀 Stay tuned for progress updates. The Davis School District appreciates the support of Davis County voters for approving its 2022 "Building Generations" bond proposal. Without that support, projects such as this could not occur.
