North Davis Junior High School recently hosted an exciting Latin Family Night, and it was a great success. The entire event was conducted in Spanish, creating an immersive and engaging experience for all attendees.
Families enjoyed a delicious nacho bar, participated in thrilling raffles, featuring items from Rancho Market, and explored a variety of school and community resources. Assistant Superintendent Fidel Montero shared his family’s journey to America, adding a personal touch to the evening.
Attendees also received assistance with navigating myDSD and accessing essential resources, thanks to our dedicated volunteers.

We’re thrilled to share that Jiashu Lei, a dedicated Chinese Dual Language Immersion educator at Syracuse Elementary School, has been honored with the National Education Association Foundation’s 2025 Travelers Award for Teaching Excellence.
Lei is one of only 48 educators nationwide to receive this prestigious award. Nominated by the Utah Education Association, Lei will represent Davis School District and Utah public schools. The award will be presented at a gala in Washington, D.C., on Feb. 14, 2025.

Foxboro Elementary kicked off the school year with a bang, featuring an energizing assembly with the talented band Bitter Blue. Their electrifying performance set the perfect tone as we embarked on our journey to become a certified School of Kindness.
Students were inspired to be kindness rockstars on their "Tour of Kindness" this year, taking their positive actions beyond the school walls and into the community. Student leaders at Foxboro performed creative skits, demonstrating the many ways kindness can shine in various settings.
With their powerful chant, "We will, we will be kind," Foxboro Elementary is setting the stage for a year filled with compassion and generosity.

Schools across Davis School District observed Patriot Day with heartfelt tributes.
West Clinton Elementary and North Layton Junior High held assemblies honoring first responders and reflecting on the day's significance. Antelope Elementary conducted a flag ceremony, while Ellison Park Elementary hosted an honor walk with local first responders and military families, encouraging students to consider the sacrifices made for their safety and freedom.
Shoreline Junior High placed 2,996 flags to commemorate each life lost in the 9/11 attacks, and Syracuse High School students wrote letters to veterans. These are just a few examples of how schools across the district marked the day, with many others participating in meaningful activities that collectively embraced the spirit of remembrance and appreciation.
East Layton Elementary embraced the spirit of 'uplifting each other' with a thrilling hot air balloon event recently.
Students cheered for their houses as balloons filled with house colors were dropped onto a target to score points. Amistad soared to victory with 25 points.
It was a morning full of fun, teamwork and school spirit.
Antelope Elementary students had a blast at Books and Breakfast, sharing stories and smiles with their loved ones over a delicious morning meal.

We are thrilled to celebrate Syracuse High School alumnus Hunter Woodhall for his remarkable achievements at the Paralympics. Hunter competed with incredible skill and determination, earning:
Gold in the 400 meter T62
Bronze in the Mixed 4 x 100 meter Universal Relay
Hunter’s performances are a testament to his hard work and dedication. We are proud to see one of our own excel on such a global stage and inspire us all.

What an epic Rock Paper Scissors Challenge at West Point Junior High! All 1,600 students competed fiercely, but 7th grader Quin emerged victorious, earning a spot in our trophy case and bragging rights for the year.

Casey Brown and his team at Davis School District have been recognized by Lenovo with the prestigious Elite Servicer Award. This accolade places them in the top 10 percent of self-maintainers in North America.
Their outstanding work involved repairing 4,614 student Lenovo laptops, including 354 under warranty, demonstrating exceptional efficiency and dedication.

Davis School District Employees Give Blood
You often hear summer described as “the lazy days,” though many would argue the opposite is true. With vacations, family activities, and countless other responsibilities, the season can pass by as quickly as a Utah monsoon. Amid all this bustle, blood donation rates tend to drop significantly.
This summer, the Red Cross of Utah saw their blood supply reach uncomfortably low levels. In August, they issued an urgent appeal for blood donations, urging those who were able to donate blood and platelets.
“Blood donations help those with cancer who need transfusions,” said Michael Smauldon, Executive Director of the Red Cross in Northern Utah. “We work with hospitals to ensure they have what they need for emergencies such as car accidents, birth complications, and emergency surgeries.”
Last week, 55 employees of Davis School District answered the call for donations, contributing 59 units of blood. Blood drives like this have helped the Red Cross stabilize their blood supply, but the need never stops.
While 60% of the U.S. population is eligible to donate blood, only about 10% do. If you’re able, consider giving a gift that could potentially save someone’s life.
All schools in the Davis School District will be closed on Monday, Sept. 2, in observance of Labor Day. Classes will resume on Tuesday, Sept. 3. Enjoy the extended weekend!

Lilly has been a cherished member of the family for 16 years. She is living her best senior life with a mix of relaxation and playful antics. While she’s known for her love of cozy naps and tasty treats, Lilly still brings the spunk by darting around the house like a whirlwind from time to time. Her favorite pastimes include tearing up cardboard into tiny pieces and transporting her beloved lamb chop toys from room to room.
The Hughes Family is grateful to be part of the Davis School District community. Katelyn, Landon, Lisa and Scott all contribute their unique talents to different schools throughout the district, and Lilly brings a touch of joy to all our lives.
