Before returning to their own classes this fall, students from across Davis School District spent part of their summer helping another student prepare for the school year.
As part of the Davis Education Foundation's annual Child Spree, student volunteers joined community members, educators and district employees to shop for around 500 students across the district. Each volunteer was paired with a student and used that child's favorite colors, interests and style to select new clothing, shoes and school essentials.
The experience allowed student volunteers to see the impact of giving back in a personal way. Instead of simply collecting donations, they helped create a thoughtful shopping experience designed around each individual student.
For many students receiving these items, Child Spree provides more than new clothes. It provides a sense of belonging and the confidence that comes from knowing someone in their community cared enough to make their school year start a little brighter.
