Mr. Horton singing on stage.

Farmington Junior High science teacher Landon Horton brings Olaf to life at Hale Centre Theatre. Horton not only brings the loveable character to life but brings a world of magic and inspiration to his students.

Horton has starred in a few performances at Hale. Such as Elf, Hello Dolly, Les Misérables, Secret Garden and Titanic.

During his performance of Hello Dolly! In 2023, Horton was able to take his students on a field trip to watch him perform.

“I love knowing my students are there supporting me, and it always gives me a boost of energy to give an even better performance,” Horton said.

For his field trip to see Hello Dolly! he had around 50 students in the crowd supporting him. Having his students there made him feel like he was at a rock concert, how loud and supportive they were. Having students in the crowd not only pushes Horton to give a better performance, but to be an even better teacher.

“Building relationships with students is my favorite part of teaching, and acting has been a great way to make those connections,” Horton said.

Horton believes that acting has helped him be a better teacher for multiple reasons. Such as the importance of bringing a positive high energy attitude to everything he does, especially his lessons.

“Students can tell when a teacher enjoys their work and their subject by the energy they bring to each day and each lesson,” Horton explained.

Horton strives to be like the teacher that encouraged him to act, the teacher that brought him out of his shell and grow as a person and actor. Horton wishes to share his passions with his students much like his teacher did for him.

“I hope that by seeing the love I have for performing, students feel encouraged to explore their own interests,” Horton said.
