The Davis School District Board of Education is moving into the next phase of developing a new strategic plan that will guide the district’s vision, priorities and resource decisions.
District superintendency outlined the planning process at a recent board meeting, emphasizing that the plan will serve as a long‑term framework for decision‑making and alignment across the district.
This work began in the fall with input from Community Councils and student leadership groups and now incorporates feedback from parents who gathered at the Board & Parent Engagement Night held this past Monday, Jan. 26.
Thank you to our families and community
The Board extends sincere thanks to the many parents and community members who joined the recent Board & Parent Engagement Night to share input on the district’s new strategic plan.
The evening was designed to encourage open conversation about what matters most for students and schools. Families explored topics such as academic excellence, access to advanced learning opportunities and the district’s commitment to supporting the whole child, including mental health, durable skill development and student well‑being. They also weighed in on the importance of strong relationships, belonging and inclusive school environments, as well as the systems and staffing needed to sustain high‑quality instruction.
This collaborative effort ensures the district’s next strategic plan reflects the needs, values and goals of the Davis community–not only for today’s students, but for future generations.
What happened at School Board & Parent Engagement Night
The event featured an open‑house exhibit hall with information stations that helped families learn about emerging priority areas, including student success, equitable access to learning opportunities and efforts to strengthen family‑school partnerships.
Following a keynote address presented by local author Brooke Romney that framed the district’s vision and invited community partnership, participants joined small‑group discussions led by board members. Parents shared perspectives there on everything from the importance of rigorous instruction to ensuring safe, supportive learning environments.
Guided breakout sessions allowed families to dive deeper. Parents contributed through live discussions, dot‑mapping activities to signal priority levels, and digital tools that captured ideas and comments in real time. Many conversations centered on the need for clear and transparent communication from the district, as well as high‑quality staffing, including ongoing professional learning and the tools educators need to deliver strong instruction. Families also highlighted the importance of effective and sustainable operations–ensuring district resources, systems and processes support continuous improvement and responsible stewardship.
What the Board will do with the input
Now that parent and community input from the Engagement Night has been collected, the Board and district will:
Synthesize feedback from discussion notes, dot maps and digital submissions.
Integrate insights with earlier input from Community Councils and student leadership groups.
Refine draft priorities and goal language through February and March, ensuring each focus area—from academic achievement to staff support to communication and transparency—is clearly articulated and aligned.
Share updated drafts in April for targeted stakeholder review.
Finalize and design the plan in May 2026.
Prepare for rollout and staff training in Summer 2026, followed by full implementation and system alignment in Fall 2026.
The timeline remains ambitious yet flexible to allow thoughtful adjustments as needed.
