A school nurse supports and promotes school attendance and academic success by:

·         Ensuring that students receive appropriate medical care at school to manage chronic conditions, injuries, illnesses, and medical emergencies.

·         Detecting potential barriers to learning by screening for vision and hearing deficits.

·         Promoting wellness through helping manage communicable diseases and ensuring compliance with immunization laws.

·         Working with medical providers, state and county health departments to follow best practices.

·         Certifying school staff in CPR.
