How will my salary be affected since I am NOT working the full contract?
Educators in Davis School District are on a 185-day contract. If you work less than 185 days, your fiscal salary will be prorated. The prorated fiscal amount is calculated based on your daily rate and the number of days you will work.
Let's do some math...
To get your daily rate, divide the full fiscal salary by the contract days (185). For example, if the starting salary for Level A on the Educator Salary Schedule is $60,928 ($5,077.34 per month), divide $60,928 by 185 days to get the daily rate of $329.34.

Something to note:
When you are hired late in the school year, your monthly salary is substantially less than it would have been if you had been hired earlier in the year because you are only working about 1/3 of the school year.
What can I expect when I am hired AFTER the beginning of the contract year?
When an educator is hired after the beginning of the contract year, their fiscal salary for the year is prorated based on the number of contract days they will work. NOTE: Their monthly and fiscal salary will not match the full salary on the salary table. Below are some questions these employees often have. Hopefully this will help you understand the process so there won’t be any surprises after you have accepted the position, or when you receive your first paycheck. Educators on a traditional schedule are paid from August 31st to July 31st.
EXAMPLE 1 – Hired on September 23rd (Missed 30 contract days):
Will work 155 days
155 days x $329.34 per day = $51,047.78 prorated fiscal salary
You will receive a small check in September, with the rest of the fiscal salary divided equally over the remaining checks (October 31st to July 31st):
You would be working approximately 25% of the month, so we would pay about 25% of the monthly salary (based on the prorated fiscal salary) on your September 30th check ($1,276.20).
Fiscal Salary: $51,047.78 - $1,276.20 = $49,771.59 fiscal salary remaining
$49,771.59 / 10 checks remaining = $4,977.16 per month (Oct. 31st to Jul. 31st
EXAMPLE 2 – Hired at the beginning of 2nd Semester (Missed 91 contract days):
Will work 91 days
91 days x $329.34 per day = $29,969.99 prorated fiscal salary
Your prorated fiscal salary will be divided evenly over the remaining checks (January 31st to July 31st), so you will receive a full check in January.
Fiscal Salary: $29,969.99 / 7 checks remaining = $4,281.43 per month (Jan to Jul)
EXAMPLE 3 – Hired March 1st (Missed 129 contract days):
Will work 56 days
56 days x $329.34 per day = $18,443.07 prorated fiscal salary
Your prorated fiscal salary will be divided evenly over the remaining checks (March 31st to July 31st), so you will receive a full check in March.
Fiscal Salary: $18,443.07 / 5 checks remaining = $3,688.62 per month
ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS:
Why doesn’t my monthly salary match my placement on the Educator Salary Schedule?
Can I elect to be paid over 9 or 10 months instead of 12 months?
How will my leave accrual be prorated since I am only working a partial school year?
Questions?
When you work a full contract year, the full salary listed on the Educator Salary Schedule is divided equally over 12 checks (i.e., $60,928 / 12 = $5,077.34 monthly salary). As described in the examples above, you have a daily pay rate (based on your placement on the salary table). If we were to take the full $60,928 in the examples above and divide that equally over the remaining checks, you would be overpaid for the contract days you will actually be working.
There is no longer an option for a 10 month pay schedule. All educators are paid over 12 months.
Leave accrual for the first year will be prorated based on the number of months you will be working. For a full year you would have received 2 days of Personal Leave and 7 days of Sick Leave.
The following formula is used to prorate the leave accrual: Total Leave Days / Contract Months x Number of Months to Work (rounded to the nearest quarter hour) 7 Sick Days / 9 Contract Months x 5 Months to Work = 3.89 (rounded to 4 days to be accrued)
Note: To receive credit for a “month worked” in the calculation you must be hired by the 14th of that month.
