James Jordan's smile just beamed as PTA Region 3 Director Lee Ann Brocious entered his classroom at Syracuse High School.

Jordan guessed he'd won some kind of recognition for his entries into the National PTA Reflections contest. Little did he know he was about to receive two awards — Award of Outstanding Interpretation of Theme in the Special Artist Category for his music composition and Award of Excellence for Film Production also in the Special Artist Category.

Two elementary students also received a National PTA Reflections Award of Merit — Randon Ott, Adams Elementary for film production, and Andrew Gunnerson, Woods Cross Elementary for literature.

Jordan said he began entering the Reflections contest in junior high.

"This time I just wanted to try my hardest because I knew it was my last year," the high school senior said. "I wanted to give it my all. I wanted to put something personal into what I was doing and I wanted to make it special to me.

Brocious said the Interpretation of Theme award is quite an honor. Out of about 900 national entries, only seven students receive that award.
