Davis School District unveiled a new mindfulness lounge for all teachers and employees at the start of the 2022 school year.
Just days into the new school year, an open house was held inside the Kendell Building on the district campus in Farmington.
The new mindful space provides opportunities for staff to refocus and recharge. The lounge provides a gratitude journal, adult coloring books, yoga mats, a relaxation sound bowl and mindfulness apps on iPads.
"Our focus this year is really on providing opportunities for adults and their social and emotional learning," says Social & Emotional Learning Director Kathleen Chronister. "We provided this as a model where schools can take a look at some of the things we are offering and design something in their own building with space they might have."
While many schools have mindful spaces for students, this is the first for adults.
A social and emotional learning grant provided the district an opportunity to create the space for mental health breaks during the day.
