Davis School District's Rules Regarding Riding School Buses

LOADING and UNLOADING Procedures: When loading, students shall stand back at least 12 feet from the edge of the road and wait until they are signaled by the bus driver to load. If it is necessary to cross the road, they must wait on that side of the road the same way, until they are signaled to cross, walking at least 12 feet in front of the bus. When unloading, students shall remain in their seats until the bus comes to a complete stop and the air brake is set; then check traffic both directions and disembark moving at least 12 feet from the right side of the bus. If it is necessary to cross the road, students must go another 12 feet out in front of the bus and wait for the driver to signal them across. Students must stop at the left side of the bus and ascertain if it is safe to continue across. Students shall never cross behind the bus.

If there are no sidewalks available, students should walk on the left side of the road facing oncoming traffic when coming to meet the bus.

For everyone’s safety, these items are not allowed on the bus. Items include but are not limited to: live animals, skateboards, scooters, roller skates, skis, glass objects, etc. The transportation of school projects, certain band instruments, etc. will be left up to the discretion of the driver.

Students shall keep the bus clean and must refrain from damaging it. By law, any damaged caused by students will be compensated for by their parents or legal guardians.

Students will treat the driver, adults, and fellow students with courtesy and respect.

Students who refuse to promptly obey the directions of the driver or refuse to obey the bus rules and regulations may forfeit their privileges to ride the bus.

Bus students are required to adhere to all the Student Personal Policies found in the Board of Education Davis School Districts Policy Manuals, including dress and grooming standards.

Students shall be on time for the bus both morning and afternoon. In the morning they should be at the stop five (5) minutes before scheduled pick-up time.
