Teacher Recruitment Scholarship for Diverse Students
The Teacher Recruitment Scholarship is designed to support diverse high school graduates from the Canyons, Davis, Granite, Jordan, and Salt Lake School Districts who are interested in becoming a teacher. The goal of the Teacher Recruitment Scholarship is to increase the ethnic diversity of teachers in Wasatch Front schools. Recipients will be encouraged to return to their communities as educational leaders and mentors for future generations after completing their teaching degree. The scholarship will cover the cost of full-time tuition (provided by Salt Lake Community College), and up to $500.00 per year for books and fees (provided by the school districts). Each scholarship will be renewable for a second year at Salt Lake Community College, provided the student meets all necessary requirements. Upon completion of an associate’s degree, Teacher Recruitment Scholars are encouraged to transfer to the University of Utah to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Teacher Education. Pending available funding, qualified individuals will be eligible for approximately $5,000 per year of funding for a maximum of two years at the University of Utah.
