  • Dear Falcon Families,

                Welcome Back to the 2015-2016 school year and to all those families who are new to Clearfield High School, a very warm welcome!  We’ve had a busy summer preparing for a great upcoming school year.  Our students have had access to their schedules online and are ready for school to begin on Monday, August 24th.  Please be sure to have your student check his/her schedule often.  We have had to make some changes since we released the initial schedules due to an influx of students which has resulted in adding more teaching sections.  We’ve also had changes in our faculty and staff so you will be seeing many new faces at CHS.  We firmly believe each and every new member will enhance an already strong faculty and staff.  Some of our new teachers are not on our website yet, but will be as soon as school begins.

                As always, we value our partnerships with you and the community.  We believe it is important for families and schools to work together and share responsibility for student success.  Families know their student best and we can learn from you.  We want all our students to know the importance of schools and families working together to provide a safe learning environment.  Clearfield High School is committed to putting student success as our first priority!

                Teacher preparation days have been eliminated resulting in less time for teachers to prepare for classroom instruction.  Therefore, there will be no Back to School Night again this year.  Last spring, we held our 9th Grade Orientation (Falcon Preview) in hopes of acclimating incoming students early.  If you have questions for any of our teachers, please feel free to contact them via e-mail or call the school and we can relay the message for a teacher to return your phone call.  Teacher appointments are best made through an e-mail directly to the teacher.  E-mail addresses can be found on our website at www.davis.k12.ut.us/706

                In today’s age of technology, we have reduced the printing and mailing of information.  A lot of future information will be located on our website, sent to your e-mail, and/or sent through the calling system.  I will be sending you the Principal’s Monthly E-mail once again with updates and special announcements at the beginning of each month.  We appreciate your understanding while we keep moving towards Going Green!   The following are a few very important things to know before the first day of school:


    SOPHOMORE ORIENTATION
    – All sophomores are invited to attend the Sophomore Orientation on Friday, August 21st at 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the gymnasium.  We are encouraging all sophomore students to come and learn about becoming a new Falcon! The purpose of this orientation is to help make the transition from junior high school to high school a positive one.  Select seniors and juniors (Falcon Ambassadors) will be serving as leaders and mentors to the sophomores during large and small group activities designed to serve as a positive introduction to Clearfield High School.  Students should plan on wearing comfortable clothes (no backpacks or notebooks necessary).  This activity is designed for the students only so there is no need for parent accompaniment.  If you have questions please email our Student Government Advisor, Mrs. LeNina Wimmer @ lwimmer@dsdmail.net


    DRESS CODE EXPECTATIONS
    - We’ve had a hot summer and areas in our school are still very warm.  We encourage students to bring a water bottle and to dress lightly, but still appropriately.  With that being said, please make sure your student is aware that the school dress code is effective beginning Monday.  No short shorts, tank tops, or revealing clothing are acceptable.  Extreme hair colors are not allowed so now is the time make changes to insure your student arrives in compliance.  Please see our complete dress code policy on our website listed under “School Policies” below “Site Shortcuts.” 


    STUDENT PARKING
    – We will be welcoming over 1900 students into our building with limited parking spaces for all of them.  Therefore, only juniors and seniors are allowed to purchase parking passes.  Students must remember to park in designated student parking areas only.  Students who park in staff or visitor parking will be ticketed.  Clearfield City has graciously allowed students to park free of charge in the city’s parking lot west of the school.  However, due to constant littering and lack of upkeep by our students, the city has limited the number of parking stalls available for our use.  If your student is parking across the street, please encourage them to help maintain our good relationship with the city by keeping it clean so we don’t lose the opportunity altogether! 


    SCHEDULE CHANGES
    - On Monday, August 24th and Tuesday, August 25th all students need to report to the classes listed on their schedules.  Students will have the opportunity to change their schedules during Schedule Change Night on Tuesday, August 25th from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.  Time slots (5 p.m., 5:30 p.m., 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.) are available to purchase for $10.  Please know there is no advantage or disadvantage in having an earlier or later time.  Time slots may be purchased in the Main Office this week during the hours of 7 a.m. until 3 p.m.  Time slots may also be purchased before, after, and in between classes on Monday and Tuesday.  Any changes due to a school error (computer error, miscoding, class unassigned, etc.) will not be charged.  The Schedule Change Night has successfully alleviated the issue of class changes lasting for the entire first month thus resulting in teachers’ inability to begin solid instruction.  We are in our sixth year with the Schedule Change Night and are proud to report solid instruction begins immediately with this process. 


    EMERALD TICKET
    –The Emerald Ticket is an incentive program designed to recognize UNSOLICITED great behavior demonstrated by students.  By doing so, we are hoping to maintain the positive culture within our school.  Too often schools focus on what the students are doing wrong so this is our attempt to focus more on what the students are doing right!  Every Friday there will be a drawing for a t-shirt, water bottle, lanyard, backpack, etc.  At the end of each semester, we will be issuing a grand prize to the student whose name is drawn.  Last year we awarded an iPad Mini to the winner at the end of the semester and another one at the year-end assembly!  All tickets (including every weekly winner) will be included in the grand prize pool.  We have asked all teachers and staff to help us by recognizing unsolicited good behavior and “over the top” random acts of kindness.  Please let your student know about this great program and encourage them to model positive behavior…it will be noticed.  


       Once again, Welcome to Clearfield High School!  Our theme this year is Falcons Inspire…we will be focusing on inspiring through leading by example with Unity, Service, Hope, and Success!  I encourage you to call our staff if you have any questions or need assistance with your child’s educational needs.  For your future planning, Parent Teacher Conferences will be on Monday, September 28th & Tuesday, September 29th, Monday, December 7th, and Tuesday, February 23rd.  All conferences will be held in the Media Center from 3:15 p.m. until 7 p.m.  Also, all high schools will be on a Late Start Tuesday schedule once again.  Every Tuesday, classes will begin for students at 8:30 a.m.  Teachers will be involved in Professional Development from 7:15 a.m. until 8:15 a.m.  We are looking forward to partnering with you in making the 2015-2016 school year an exciting and fulfilling year.  We will do all we can to make it a great one!

    Microsoft Office Pro Plus 2013 Microsoft is now offering a free Microsoft Office subscription to our students as part of their District Office 365 account. This subscription allows students to install a full version of the Microsoft Office 2013 software at home on up to 5 devices. Software versions include Office 2013 for PC, Office 2011 for Mac, and Office Mobile for iPhone or Android.
