  • Congratulations Mrs. Russell

Mrs. Russell received the Utah School Counselor Association Human Rights Award for 2016-2017

Karen has been an effective counselor for all students at North Layton Junior High, but she has a special way with students that are working through gender issues. She works with them to find acceptance from their peers, family and most of all themselves. She is sensitive to her worries and helps them find paths to seafe places. Karen is an advocate for the LGBT community and encourages inclusion of these individuals at NLJH, She is working with the Family Acceptance Project to help families support their LGBT family members and has brought to the attention of the Davis School District counselors the need for this project. In addition, Karen spends time volunteering with LGBT support and education groups throughout the community and works on an organizing committee for members of the Trans* community and their families.
