Welcome to Hill Field Elementary

Read here and below for registration and general school information.
Our Marvin & Jessie life-skill for November is "Service." Our third life-skill this year is to learn about how to give service. We'll even be doing a service project! Bring new and used gloves, hats, blankets, pillows, or to the library before Friday, Dec. 4th, and they will be donated to "The Road Home" shelter in Salt Lake. In our skit this month Marvin and Jessie forgot their superhero identities of "Service Boy" and "Service Girl" when Apathetic Woman made them trip over her "apathetic stone." The students helped them to remember who they were because of the service project they were doing. We learned that giving service means:
1. Doing things to help others or the environment without expecting anything in return.
2. Opportunities for service arise every day at home, school, and in the community.
3. Anyone, no matter thier age, financial status, or ability can volunteer and do service for others.

We just finished our SEP Conference week and would like to thank you for all you do to help your child learn each night at home. If you need to reschedule your conference, give us a call and we'll put you through to your child's teacher.

Our two family nights have brought out a total of nearly 300 parents and students. Thanks to Mrs. Gray and the After School program for sponsoring the mad scientist activity and to our teachers for teaching math games at the Math and Science night sponsored last week. Our next night will be "Child Development" and will be held on Tuesday, December 8th. If you would like any math games that teach skills such as patterns, place value, or any of the math facts, contact Mrs. Metcalf, our math coach, or your child's teacher.

What is an SEP Conference?
SEP Conferences (Student Education Plan)
Click here for to view or print instructions on how to schedule an SEP conference on-line.
SEP's are parent-teacher conferences that are held twice each year. A student, their parents, and the teacher(s) meet to discuss the student's progress and to review and set goals for the upcoming term. The student is an important part of this conference, and should attend with you. There are two required SEP Conferences each year and an optional third conference if needed or desired. Look at your Wednesday Folder for this year's conference dates.

The conference scheduler is activated approximately 3 weeks before each conference session and is open for a 2-week period. Instructions are sent home prior to each conference or you can print them from the link above. Visit the Davis School District home page link located at the top right of any of our pages to log in to the Student Information System to schedule a conference, view current grades, attendance, lunch balance, etc.

Weather Conditions and Recess Time
Recess or No Recess?
Click here to check the current air quality for the Ogen area.
Recess or No Recess??? Inclement Weather Policy--- With the onset of winter we check with the local weather service frequently on the computer to monitor the current temperature and wind chill. We also walk outside and check before sending children outside if there's a question as to whether children should be inside or out. Our general rule of thumb is that if the temperature is above 20 degrees, and it is not wet, and there are no air quality issues, we're outside. If there is damp weather and/or a wind chill issue, then we will more than likely be inside. We try to have the children outside as much as possible for recess to give them ample opportunity for physical activities and to meet national exercise standards for children. During the winter we may often face poor air quality due to the valley acting as a reservoir for smog and emissions. In order to follow the new guidelines from the Utah Department of Health (UDOH) and Utah Department of Environmental Quality, we will often keep the kids inside for red, "unhealthy" days. Visit the link just above for real-time information from the state web site. In the rare event of really bad weather or a power outage and you want to know if school will be cancelled, listen to KSL Radio (102.7 FM or 1160 AM) or call the school district closure hotline at 402-5500. Thank you!

Science Fair Resources

Click here to access the Science Fair resource web page created by Ms. Hammond
Every year the 4th, 5th, and 6th grade classes participate in a Science Fair here at the school. It is a fun opportunity for students to develop their own question and ideas to research. Students share their results with classmates and are judged by base and parent volunteers. It is a lot of fun and a great research, experimenting, and writing experience for the students.
