Relentless Pressure and Pace
Davis High School is known for its relentless effort in every sport both male and female. In Wrestling, we will carry that image on as we prepare for competition in season and out of season.
Wrestling is different from every other sport for two reasons:
1) It is individual. No one takes the credit for winning or loosing but the one who wins or looses. It is not the team mates who win or loose but the individual athlete. That puts added pressure on those who wrestle to practice hard, increase their techniques and abilities on the mat and condition to the point that they can rely upon themselves for success.
2) It is still a team sport. Although the individual can train, condition, perform and succeed on their own, there are 14 weight classes and over 40 members of a high school wrestling team. As the individual succeeds the team takes care of itself. Building other team mates around you makes the difference for the teams success at Region and State.
Again RELENTLESS PRESSURE and PACE are KEY to our SUCCESS! |

The Reality of Competitive Life
"It is a reality of life that men are competitive and the most competitive games draw the most competitive men. That's why they are there-to compete, to know the rules and objectives when they get in the game. The object is to win fairly, squarely, by the rules-but to win. And in truth, I've never known a man worth his salt who in the long run, deep down in his heart, didn't appreciate the grind, the discipline.
There is something in good men that really yearns for discipline and the harsh reality of head to head combat. I don't say these things because I believe in the "brute" nature of man or that men must be brutalized to be combative. I believe in God, and I believe in human decency. But I firmly believe that any man's finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle - VICTORIOUS..."

New Weight Management MUST READ! |
This year we will continue with the weight control and management program implementation in 2006-2007. The Davis High Wrestling team is in the process of purchasing a set of "Tanita" scales similar to those used by the state for measuring body fat at the weigh-in sites acorss the state. In addition to the scales we have purchased a refractometer that will measure the hydration level of our wrestlers through a sample of urine.
In order for this new weight managment system to have as little impact on our wrestlers as possible, there are a few things we need to do.
#1 All wrestlers must begin drinking 2 to 3 quarts of water a day. It will take at least a month of doing this to benefit a wrestler so they must begin now!
#2 All wrestlers must be down to the weight they want to compete at for the season on Monday November 23, 2009. This is the date we will be testing our hydration and body fat to determine what weight each wrestler may compete for the rest of the season. Not only must the wrestler be down to weight but he must be hydrated as well.
#3 Remember that this system is in place to help protect athletes from hurting themselves trying to cut large abounts of weight. My sugestion for all Davis Wrestlers is to compete at a weight were you feel comfortable, strong and competitive. This is what will really make the difference.
