What is Accelerated Reader?

The goal of Bluff Ridge Elementary is to help students become lifelong learners who love to read. Accelerated Reader is a motivational program for individual student reading practice. Each student is given a test at the beginning of the year to determine the most effective range for him/her to practice reading. The ZPD range, or Zone of Proximal Development, is a reading range of books that will challenge a student without frustration or loss of motivation. It is the level of difficulty from which a student should be able to read independtly for long periods of time. During the reading time, both fluency and endurance are improved. As the year progresses, teachers monitor student progress, adjusting ZPD ranges as needed. Bluff Ridge students enjoy taking tests, accumlating points, and earning rewards. We are excited with the reading progress our students are making!
