Learning Outcomes
The students will read and understand Macbeth. They will examine the motives of the major characters and express their opinion of these motives in an essay.

Background
The teacher should visit the site (http://www.ptraining.com/macbeth/ ) beforehand to assure that the information there is appropriate for your students.

Materials

Introduction

Instructional Procedures
1. Students read ACT 1 of Macbeth as homework.

2. three students will be selected to perform the opening scene in Act 1.

3. classmates should be prepared to act out Lady Macbeth's sleepwalking scene later.

4. Students will use the study questions to test their understanding of the play.

5. Students write a letter to Macbeth or Lady Macbeth trying to convince them not to continue with their plans.

6. Students will analyze Macbeth's motivation in an essay.
