  • Make Attendance Important!

It is not a secret that students who attend school on a regular basis learn more and have more overall success than students who are absent. Learning builds upon itself and absences interrupt the sequence of instruction. Students who are not in school miss out on daily practice, active learning experiences, class participation and the opportunity to ask questions for understanding. Consistent attendance patterns will result in higher achievement on end of year assessments.

Parents that make school attendance a priority influence the dedication children have to their own education. A student’s job is to attend school and be an active participant in their own learning. Education should be a positive experience and absences often lead to student frustration from falling behind and then having to get caught up. The habits they practice now will lead students to be more responsible and successful in future endeavors.

  • Does Sleep Matter in School Performance?

Time Healthland magazine recently published an article stating the finding of an important sleep study. This article, "More Sleep Means More Focused, Emotionally Stable Kids" summarized that children who received less sleep were more likely to become irritable, emotional, and frustrated at school. "One more movie or one less game played before bed can translate into potentially significant changes in the way children focus and interact with their teachers and classmates," the article states.
